How To Stay Hydrated

I’m someone who doesn’t naturally get very thirsty so I often have to remind myself to drink. During the summer months, it can be a bit easier to tune into our body’s natural cues but during the winter months, when we’re not feeling hot, we can miss them quite easily.

A tip that I try to remember is to stay ahead of thirst - sipping little and often throughout the day as when we feel thirsty, we’re already a bit dehydrated. When you’re in a particularly sweaty climate, coconut water is a great way to replenish your electrolytes. It also tastes great too!

Keeping hydrated is really important for so many reasons including boosting our microbiome diversity, decreased joint pain, aiding digestion and increased brain function which impacts on our concentration, mood and memory.

I usually keep a bottle of water on my desk and add a mix of fruit and herbs such as mint, strawberries and cucumber or I’ll add a few lemon slices to a glass of water - if you do the same, just remember that lemons can be a bit acidic on teeth enamel so best to use a straw.
